Baier, Robert Michael, BAIER ROBERT MICHAEL, December 12, 1929-June 8, 2009. Youngest of 5 siblings of Louis Philip Baier and Catherine Marie Leist. Born in Pittsburgh, PA. He developed a keen interest in music and played percussion in the Carrick High School Band. He played drums with many local musicians and led his own combo, The Continentals, for over twenty years. Bob served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Master Sergeant and was awarded the Good Conduct and National Defense Service medals. During his final months on Active Duty, Robert was married to Maxine Ruth Hughes, of Roberts Wisconsin. He was promoted to Technical Support Representative and was responsible for troubleshooting and assisting his fellow CE's in the Pittsburgh region. During the course of his employment Bob earned six IBM Means Service Awards. Many of his fellow customer engineers would unselfishly attribute their success to Robert's behind the scenes efforts on their behalf. Bob and Maxine resided in the Overbrook neighborhood of Pittsburgh before moving to their new home in Scott Township. He heroically cared for Maxine until she succumbed to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in 1992. Bob moved to Naples, FL in 2003 to be near Philip and Nace and enjoyed the company of his beloved Allie, a silver miniature schnauzer that never left his side. French, James

French, James, FRENCH JAMES, 75 of Port Orange, FL passed away at the Port Orange Hospice on Monday June 1, 2009. He was born on November 26, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA to Matthew and Edna French. Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years Catherine (Kitty); his four children, James of Boston, MA, Diane Peltier of Dallas, TX, Jeffery (Lisa) of Albuquerque NM, John (Selena) of Minneapolis, MN. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Molly, Meredith, Melanie, Danielle, Grant, Jarrett, Jason, Jacob, Cassady, Trevor and Reagan. He earned his baccalaureate and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked for Westinghouse 23 years with his last assignment managing the design of the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR), the fusion device built at Princeton University. He was hired by EBASCO to manage the final design and construction of the experimental device which first fired at Christmas, 1982, which he missed to be with his family, and expanded man's knowledge of fusion for 14 more years. After management roles on the Super Conducting Super Collider and next experimental Fusion device were canceled by politics he retired to Florida to spend time on his favorite pastime. Jim will be remembered for always having a project going on in the house. He could, and did, fix everything, dispensing advice to friends and neighbors when consulted. Inspired by his depression era childhood, Jim kept cars, appliances and houses better than new for years after others would have thrown them away or paid someone to remodel. He passed this trait onto his children who always consider their houses a work in progress. Luckily his loving wife Kitty did not mind and participated when she could, particularly in the clean-up detail. A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, June 20 at St Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, 920 Perry Hwy, Pittsburgh, PA, 15229. Remembrances in his honor may be made to the Westminster By-The-Sea Presbyterian Church, 3221 S. Peninsula Drive, Daytona Beach Shores, FL 32118.,
